Summary of my researchI am intrigued by how children learn language, whether as a first or a second language. Within hispanic linguistics in particular, my research focuses on the acquisition of Spanish grammar and systematic patterns of use of morphosyntactic features of the grammar of Spanish. I am particularly interested in how children detect regularities in the language addressed to them and construct the grammar of their language. In studies with adults, I also examine variable processing and use as well as the second language teaching and learning.

Why do I use a middle initial "E" in my name?
My middle name is "Esteban" and the reason I use my middle initial is because there are at least two other scholars with my name, that I am aware of (check the profiles for historian Pablo Manuel Requena and theologian Pablo Requena Meana). I am not the famous Spanish guitar maker Pablo Requena. Therefore, to avoid any confusion with these talented men, I go by "Pablo E. Requena".
